Eighth Birthday Party

Description:
September 2003. Before the party started Katherine was giving some of her early guests a ride in her paddleboat. It was an overcast day with on and off rain showers. But we had a great time. The second photo is of some of the guests in the backyard. One of the fathers assisted me this year with the paddleboat rides and the third photo is of them casting off to go up the pond. There was a spot on the other side of the pond way north of our house where a man wearing old colonial looking clothes, a sword, an eye patch, a tri corner hat and brandishing an old muzzle loading pistol was yelling at them from the bank. He kept yelling that they had better get away from his treasure and called them scalawags and scurvy dogs. He occasionally fired his pistol in the air to punctuate his point. You could hear the girls screaming all the way down the pond. I sent a camera with John on the next trip up the pond and here are two of the pictures he was able to take. John was a bit leery to get any closer to shore so the pictures are from a distance.
